Remembrance Sunday - 10th November

On Sunday 10th November St. Andrew's Church will be having its Annual Remembrance Service to remember those that bravely gave their lives for our freedom during World War I and World War II.

As part of this service the names of all those from Sudbury who perished during these two wars will be recognised and read out.

This act of Remembrance will take place at 11am during the usual church service, which that week will begin at 10:30am. Although part of the church service, we recognise that many more people from different faiths and none gave their lives, and so all are very welcome to attend and pay their respects. Some facts about those that died:

Total Civilian and Military Deaths during World War I:

  • Great Britain - 1,011,687
  • France - 1,737,800
  • Russia - 3,394,369
  • India - 73,905
  • United States - 117,466
  • Germany - 2,800,720

Total Civilian and Military Deaths during World War II:

  • United Kingdom - 450,700
  • United States - 418,500
  • India - 1,500,000-2,500,000

  • Poland - 5,600,000

Those wishing to remember the fallen may also like to lay a wreath or similar item, and this is absolutely fine. Although St. Andrew's doesn't sell these, we suggest that wreaths are acquired through the Royal British Legion Poppy Shop: RBL Poppy Shop
