100 Years and counting…

St Andrews is a vibrant welcoming and growing church in the London Borough of Brent. We are a lively and very friendly Anglican parish church serving all sectors of the community in Sudbury. You will find people of all ages and from many countries. Our worship is flexible and eucharistic; we have many events through the year and a variety of groups for all ages.

 HISTORY

Founded in 1905 (May 10th), the original church building (listed, Grade 2) now serves as the church hall. By 1911. plans were afoot for an new church building to serve the thriving local community.
Put on hold as a result of the First World War, they were finally completed in the
form of the present building in which was consecrated by the Bishop of London in 1926. Remarkably the new church and a new vicarage were funded totally by the parish, leaving it free of debt. A particular feature of the church is its leaded glazing with fine stained glass images.

The building gives us generous space for flexible use. We are blessed with a new concert-standard digital organ and the lovely acoustics enable us to hold regular concerts. We enjoy holding winter and summer fairs, children's fun days, meals, art exhibitions, and other events inside the church.

 COMMUNITY

We have over 100 regular communicants, a thriving Sunday school (two groups (under and over 10s), and serve one of the most ethnically and socially mixed neighbourhoods of London.

We run a number of cultural and community events as well as providing facilities for groups and classes across a wide variety of interests

Our community reflects the ethnic diversity of our City and Diocese, and at St Andrews we reach out both through Christian services, and through community facilities into that diversity.

We have strong links with the local primary School in Sudbury, and a thriving 2-5.5 year olds Play Group, while our church halls are used for activities from Tai-Chai through ballroom dancing, Whist clubs and Duke of Edinburgh Award Schemes for local young people

Our community development plan includes the fund raising to provide better and expanded facilities to serve the community (see fundraising page here), and we are one of the three churches which run the local neighbourhood centre providing day care and social contact for 120 local elderly people.

We are proud to be a founder member of SWAY (Sudbury, Wembley,
Alperton a Youth) project to provide additional youth oriented services
within our community, and house the youth support worker at St Andrews.

We are here for all local people, whether you are a regular church-goer or not. It is our privilege to conduct baptisms, wedding and funerals and provide pastoral care for local residents. Generations of children have been through the playgroup and 2 O'Clock Club and we value all the friendships we make along the way.
